If FDR had just announced he wanted America to be Socialist back in 1932, would he have won?

Presidents like FDR and Obama are using a little bit of socialism to save capitalism! The alternative is total failure. Capitalism was under-regulated in the 1920s and the 80s and 90s, speeding up in Bush's terms. Without proper regulation, oversight, and enforcement, capitalism goes unstable and crashes. When that happens, we move a few inches to the left to restore stability. That's not -socialism-, its just a prudent, forward-looking strategy to save the corrupt system from itself.
